Proven pedigree and proven performance!

Esther bought this stallion from the best French proven endurance lines when he was 18 months old. The only way to be able to afford such a promising horse like Watt du Colombier was to buy him young and hope he would be as good as his pedigree promised. And he was! With Watt, Esther has made the Dutch endurance squad, competing in the European Championships. Because proving Watt in competition was the most important task as of 2019 he has not been at stud yet and we eagerly await his first foals, likely in 2021.

Watt is a strong, compact stallion, measuring 1.51m. He has good conformation, well-shaped feet and a super canter. Watt has a low rest pulse and the typical fast “Persik recovery” in work. He is a gentleman, impeccably behaved at any event, and always 100% focused on the job ahead. He loves endurance, and it is clear he is the product of many decades of successful French endurance breeding. Both his sire and dam have produced champions, and Watt has many half, ¾ and even closer relatives that have done very well in endurance.

Watt has completed 2 160 3* events up to 2019, and he was part of the Dutch national endurance squad. He competed in the 2019 European championships and loves big events like this. Unfortunately it has become much harder for us to come to Europe to compete after Brexit so we have had to re-evaluate our options and we are now staying in the UK, competing at lower levels as we have achieved so many goals already.

Breeding stallion

Until 2019 all focus was on performance, every year there was a new challenge for Watt and Esther, so he was not used for breeding to minimise risks. But since 2020 Watt is available at stud! He will continue to compete at a lower level, and he will combine his rides with his stud duties.

Watt has produced 2 stunning colt foals in 2021, both awarded gold premium at the Britsh Breeding endurance futurity. Anglo Colt Voltage Akhdhar got the highest marks and he is an exceptionally well-put-together young man, with super efficient gaits and a sweet gentle personality. His half-brother Elektrik Akhdhar is full Arab and has his mother's long legs and his grandfather Moreno's cheeky personality. Both are exciting prospects for the future. In 2023 Rik's full brother NRG (Energy) was born. Again a super colt, which in turn did  well in the futurity gradings. This cheeky chestnut colt will be kept for the future.
In 2024 we hope for 2 new foals by Watt, Voltage will hopefully have a full sibling, and Asphodele is also expecting a foal by Watt.

Watt is standing in the UK, he is available frozen for both UK and Europe. He can cover live with well behaved experienced mares, or we can arrange fresh AI. As Watt is a premium stallion, all AHS foals will be registered with a discount, more discount for premium performance mares. Please contact Groen Equestrian for prices and terms and conditions for using Watt. More information on the benefits of using a Premium stallion you can find here: http://www.ahs-premium.org.uk/

Watt is by the renowned sire Arques Perspex, the most famous son of legend Persik (Kankan x Pamiatka). He carries Persik in his pedigree twice because his dam Primera was also by Persik. Persik was a Russian bred Arab stallion who was brought to the South of France and did exceptionally well with the tough mountain mares of the Cevennes region.

Perhaps his most famous son (certainly the one with the most winning offspring) is Arques Perspex, Watts sire. Arques Perspex also sired 2016 World Champion Twyst Maison Blanc and many other successful children and grandchildren.

Watt’s dam is Primera, a chestnut mare out of Persik and Diardoba, one of the grand dames of the Cevennes breeding. Diardoba combines Polish lines (Diarex out of Exelsjor) with a Spanish dam line. Diarex did very well in the French endurance breeding, especially with the mares.

Primera has not had many foals, but those she did have were of good quality. Most famous is double winner of the legendary Florac endurance ride in 2016 and 2017: Sunit du Colombier. He nearly won it a third time in 2019, but his rider retired him in the last vetgate because he did not feel Sunit felt as well as he usually does.

There are many close relatives to Watt that have done well in endurance; combinations of Persik, Arques Perspex, and Diardoba and some of her sisters were used a lot by the Colombier stud, and some of the other endurance studs in the Cevennes Persikland breeding lines. The combination of the Diarex mares, with Persik of his son Arques Perspex, was especially successful. As a result, there are many ¾ siblings, and even closer genetic relatives of Watt, in French endurance and endurance breeding.
