Anglo Arab mare Nib came to Esther when she was 5.5 years old. She had encountered some bad luck as a young horse which caused her to be scared of people, and she had a broken pedal bone. She came to be a potential broodmare, but slowly but surely she became a ridden horse. Together with Watt and Asphodele, she did her novice qualifications. Unfortunately, she had pulled a shoulder muscle when she was doing her first 1* FEI ride. After moving to the UK, Esther felt Nib was not safe enough for her to ride out on their own, so now Nib is a full-time broodmare. She is expecting a foal by Aqui for 2020.

Nib has already had one foal in 2014: Widad (Willbe Akhdhar)

Nib is out of an Arab sire and a Thoroughbred dam, so she is 50-50. Both her ancestors were racehorses out of proven race lines. Her dam Europa is out of Blakey Ridge (Busted), and Europa’s dam is by Man in the Moon.

Her sire is Sheikan Star, a race and endurance stallion sired by Marbach bred Shereik. Shereik himself has produced a couple of 160 horses, and in his ancestors, we find Hadban Enzahi, the father of many influential horses such as Dahman and Masan.
Sheikan himself has been very important in Dutch endurance breeding, he competed up to 80 km, but at least 3 children managed (multiple) 160’s of which 2 made the Dutch endurance squad.
